Hired a drywall finisher who ghosted me for 3 weeks
Ngl, I thought patching a hole in my ceiling would be a quick job. Found a guy on a listing site who said he'd come by Friday. He never showed, texted excuses for 2 weeks, then finally came. Took him 20 minutes to do the work. How do you vet people so you don't waste a whole month waiting?

Exactly right, @white.alex. I start calling three or four people and book whoever replies first.

The whole gig economy is built on this weird trust fall where nobody actually has to follow through. I swear every time I try to hire someone for something simple, it turns into a month long saga of broken promises. You basically have to treat every listing like a job interview now and call three people before you even schedule one. It's like people just put up ads hoping work falls in their lap but they don't actually want to do the work. The real trick is finding someone who shows up on time and actually does what they said, which is way harder than it should be.
