Freshened up my kit after a cosmetology expo in Denver

I went to that big cosmetology expo in Denver last March and saw a demo on cleaning brushes with a heated alcohol soak, so I tried it on my oldest foundation brushes that were caked with product. It took maybe 20 minutes and they came out looking nearly brand new, which saved me from buying a whole new set that would've run around $150. Has anyone else tried this method, or do you have a trick that keeps your brushes lasting longer?
