I finally figured out why my foils kept coming out patchy

Been doing hair for about 7 years now, mostly in a small shop outside Tulsa. Last month I noticed my highlights were looking uneven, especially on longer hair. Turns out I was painting the lightener too thick and not teasing the sections enough before wrapping. Switched to a thinner consistency and started using a tail comb to backcomb each slice, and the difference after just 3 clients was night and day. Has anyone else dealt with this or found a better method for keeping foils flat on slippery hair?
