That $600 load cell I bought off eBay was a complete dud

I needed a new load cell for my crane's overload system and thought I'd save some cash by grabbing a used one on eBay. Paid $600 for it and spent 4 hours on Saturday trying to calibrate the thing. Turned out the internal wiring was all corroded and the readings were off by over 2000 pounds. Ended up having to buy a new one from the dealer for $950 anyway. Has anyone else had bad luck with secondhand crane parts like this?

Question is, did you even check the wiring before you bought it?

Three houses in my neighborhood had the same issue and nobody even noticed until the second year. Respectfully @dakota_singh39, it's really not that big of a deal for most setups.

Honestly, that's kinda the problem right there. Just because nobody noticed it for a year doesn't make it a non-issue. My friend's place had a similar thing with a slow leak behind the wall, and by the time they caught it, the mold was already spreading behind the drywall. It's not about whether you see it right away, it's about what's quietly happening that you can't see. A small wiring problem can turn into a big fire hazard if you ignore it long enough, even if everything looks fine at first glance.
