The one writing prompt I spent 6 hours on still flopped because I forgot to add stakes
I figured a cool sci-fi setting and a twist ending would carry it, but nobody even commented because the characters had zero reason to care about the conflict.

3 days of world building and @stellawood made me realize my hero had no reason to save the galaxy.

Zero reason to care" hits the nail on the head. I learned to add a simple personal goal for the main character first.
