Took me three months to realize my prompt jar was the problem
I kept a glass jar full of prompt slips (you know, the classic "write a story about a door" type stuff) and every time I grabbed one I'd stare at it for 20 minutes. Turned out I was writing prompts that were too broad, like "a stranger arrives" with no stakes or setting. So I rewrote all 50 slips to include a location, a conflict, and a weird object (e.g. "a lighthouse keeper finds a rubber duck in the fog, but the duck is warm"). Now I pick a slip and I'm writing within 5 minutes, not 25. Has anyone else found that their prompt system needed a total overhaul? What's your best trick for making a prompt actually spark something fast?
