Had to pick between a cheaper crew and a specialized team for our foundation
I went with the cheaper crew to save $3,500 on our slab in Austin, and now the corners are cracking 3 months in because they skimped on rebar spacing. The specialized team quoted me double but said they use a tighter grid that handles our clay soil way better. Anyone else regret cheaping out on foundation work and have advice on fixing it without a full rip-out?

Honestly, that $3,500 discount is looking like a great deal now that you get free decorative crack lines in your slab, huh? Classic case of paying for the lesson twice, man. If it's any consolation, I watched my neighbor try to patch his with epoxy and it looked like a crime scene cleanup before it just opened back up. You're probably looking at mudjacking or some kind of pier system depending how deep the clay moves, but prepare for that to cost more than you saved. Ngl, next time just let the specialized guys drain your wallet now instead of later.

Yeah, it's the same pattern everywhere. You try to save a little money on something, and suddenly you're paying triple later to fix the shortcut. I see it with cars too, guy down the street went with the cheapest brake job, now his rotors are warped and he's buying a whole new set. It's like the universe has a tax on being cheap in the wrong places. Next time I'm just gonna pay the full price and pretend I don't know any better.
