Need advice on foundation inspection hold-up with custom builder

We were all set to pour the concrete for our new home's foundation when the inspector came and said the soil compaction test failed. My builder is now talking about bringing in a geotechnical engineer, and I'm worried about the timeline and cost. What steps have you taken in a similar situation to keep things moving?

My buddy faced the same soil test fail last spring. He ended up hiring the geotech engineer himself to get the report faster, which actually saved money. His build only got pushed back by two weeks in the end. Ever consider that route?

Really? I always thought that would cost more. How'd he find one?

Hiring your own geotech sounds like a good way to start a fight with your builder over liability.
