Shoutout to the inspector in Boise who caught the framing nails I almost buried in a shower wall
I was rushing a custom build in Boise last week and used 3 inch framing nails near the plumbing wall where they should've been screws, and he flagged it before drywall went up. If he'd missed it, the homeowner would've been looking at popped tile and a $2,400 repair six months down the line. How are you all training newer guys to know which fasteners go where, because clearly my method of "just grab whatever's in the pouch" isn't cutting it?
Doubt the homeowner would've been staring at a $2,400 bill honestly. Framing nails into a stud near a shower wall, sure the inspector flagged it, but a 3 inch nail holding a stud isn't gonna magically back out and pop tile unless the whole wall is moving. The real issue is you nailed where plumbing runs, so the worry is a nail through a pipe, not the drywall six months later. Sounds like the guy did his job and you got lucky, but let's not act like this was a disaster waiting to happen. Training new guys on fasteners is fine, but the panic over one framing nail feels a bit much.
