Stopped letting my builder pick the faucets after a $2,300 surprise in Tucson
Three years ago I let my first custom builder choose all the fixtures, and the kitchen faucet he picked was a cheap brushed nickel thing that started leaking after 14 months. Last week in Tucson I walked the plumbing aisle at a supply house with my second builder, and he handed me a spec sheet before we even talked money, so I picked a $380 widespread faucet I actually liked. The old way was me nodding at a catalog and hoping, the new way is me holding the part in my hand and reading the flow rate. My builder said he's seen people blow $2,300 on a whole house of fixtures they end up swapping in year two. Does anyone else ask to touch and read the spec before signing off on finishes, or do you just trust your builder's taste?
