A guy at the Denver library told me my 8 character password was basically a screen door and he was right
I was setting up a new laptop at the Denver Public Library last weekend and the IT guy helping me saw me type in my password which was just my dog's name plus 123. He flat out said that would get cracked in under a minute by any basic tool and I kind of brushed him off at first. Then he showed me a free site that estimates crack times and mine came up as 2 seconds, which honestly made my stomach drop. I went home and switched everything to a password manager with 16 character random strings and turned on two factor for my email and bank. Now I keep a printed backup code sheet in a locked drawer because I am paranoid about lockouts. Has anyone else had a stranger call them out like that and actually changed their whole setup because of it?
