Found a way to spot phishing emails without even reading them
I kept almost falling for those fake 'your package has been held' emails so I started looking at the sender address first. 9 times out of 10 its a bunch of random letters followed by @gmail or something weird. Now I just glance at the sender field and delete without opening. Anyone got a better quick trick for spotting scams?

I mean that's a solid start, but I almost fell for one that had the right sender address spoofed once. I started checking for typos in the actual email body text instead, like if they say 'your package is being held at your local facilty' I know it's fake. Simple misspellings are honestly my go-to now since even the pros still mess them up.

Three times last month I got texts about a toll road I've never used in a state I've never been to. My buddy actually paid one of those before I could stop him because the logo looked legit and the dollar amount was small enough to not think twice about. The sad part is the spelling mistakes are actually my failsafe now too, which is hilarious because I can't spell half the words they butcher either. I had to double check my own email signature once because I wasn't sure if "recieved" was spelled wrong or if I was just having a long day. Maybe the scammers are doing us all a favor by making us better at English without even trying.
