I don't get why we still use security questions for everything

I see everyone setting up security questions like 'What's your mother's maiden name?' but I think it's a weak link. Hackers can often find this info on social media. For example, my cousin had her account breached because the answer was on her Facebook profile. It seems like we're relying on outdated methods. Why not use better options like backup codes or authenticator apps? I'm just not convinced this is the best way to keep accounts safe.

Hold up, they're way easier for normal people to remember than some random backup code. Not everyone wants or can use an extra app for every single login.

My mom gets so confused by backup codes, she would be totally lost. I agree that most people just don't want another app to deal with.

According to a survey I saw, only about 30% of users actually set up two-factor authentication. Is it really that hard to keep a backup code in a safe place? Most phones come with built in authenticator apps now, so you don't need extra downloads. Sure, some people find it confusing, but security is worth a little hassle. If someone can't handle a code or app, they probably have bigger issues with online safety. We make these things sound like huge barriers, but in practice, they're pretty straightforward.
