Overheard a guy at the coffee shop talking about phishing his own company

Tbh I was just grabbing a latte before work and this dude next to me was bragging to his friend about how he 'tested' his coworkers by sending fake login emails. He said it was hilarious watching who clicked. Ngl that made my stomach drop, he had zero clue that doing that without permission is both illegal and a huge red flag for any real security team. I almost said something but just walked away, now I'm wondering how many people out there think this is a clever prank instead of a crime. Has anyone else run into someone who treats phishing like a game?
