Spent 5 hours on a virus that a simple backup fixed in 15 minutes

Got hit with ransomware last Tuesday. Some fake invoice attachment from a client. My whole file system locked up. I tried every removal tool I knew, registry edits, safe mode, the whole nine yards. Five hours gone and nothing worked. Finally called a buddy in Denver who does IT work. He just said restore from backup. I had one from Monday and barely thought about it. Took 15 minutes and I was back. Now I run backups twice a day and test them weekly. Anyone else waste a day before trying the obvious fix?
