It took me 3 trips to figure out which anchor store my local mall in Fort Wayne actually had
I got really into old mall maps lately and I found one from Glenbrook Square in Fort Wayne that listed four anchor spots but only showed three names. I figured it was just a printing mistake so I brushed it off. Then I pulled up a 1987 directory and saw a JCPenney logo on the northwest corner, which did not match the 1994 layout at all. I zoomed into aerial photos on those county map sites and stared at a blank roof section for about two hours trying to spot a loading dock. Turns out the fourth anchor was a Montgomery Ward that got torn down and replaced with a food court in the early 90s, and nobody bothers to mention it in most write ups. The whole thing took me three separate evenings because I kept second guessing whether the building footprint even lined up with the parking lot. If anyone has old directory scans from Glenbrook or other Indiana malls, I would love to compare notes because I cannot be the only one losing sleep over this.
Three evenings on a mall that might not even have that anchor anymore? I get being into old maps but you stared at a roof for two hours hoping to spot a loading dock. Montgomery Ward closed a ton of stores in the early 90s, that part is pretty well known, so a food court taking over the spot is not exactly a hidden mystery. Half those old directories have wrong logos and layouts anyway because stores swapped spots all the time. Sounds less like a lost anchor and more like you talked yourself into a theory and then went looking for proof. What would you even do with the scans if you found them?
