Tried a fuel additive I was skeptical about on a 7.3 Powerstroke
Picked up some Hot Shot's Secret EDT Plus on a whim last week for my buddy's 2000 F-250 that's been cranking slow on cold mornings. Figured it was snake oil but after two tanks the starter doesn't drag near as bad and it fires right up at 30 degrees. The cetane boost must actually do something on these old HEUI injectors. Anyone else have luck cleaning up injector stiction with additives or am I imagining this?

My first try with a fuel additive was dumping a bottle of Lucas into a gas Taurus that already had injector issues, pretty sure it just made the check engine light come on faster lol. But on a 7.3 I can see it actually helping a bit with the stiction on those HEUI injectors, especially if the oil is getting old. Ran some Archoil 9100 in my 6.0 once after a hot no-start and it seemed to quiet down the injector clatter for a few tanks, so I'd say you're not crazy. Slow cranking on a Powerstroke usually means the oil is too thick or the injectors are sticking, so if the additive thins things out or cleans the spools a little that makes sense.

Ford tech told me once that 90% of the time people blame injectors when it's really just old batteries or bad glow plugs. Dumping additive in a truck with high mileage is a bandaid, not a fix. If the oil is thick enough to cause slow cranking, changing it would do more good than any bottle of snake oil.
