My old Wacom tablet sat in a box for 2 years until I tried a new brush pack
I dug out my old Intuos tablet last week after seeing some art online. The lines I made were shaky and the colors looked flat, just like before. I downloaded a free brush set from a forum, and the difference was instant. My sketches went from looking like bad clip art to having real texture and depth in a single afternoon. Has anyone else had a simple tool change completely unlock their old gear?

Totally get that. Saw a video where an artist said the default round brush in most programs is basically the worst tool for line art. They switched to a basic pencil brush with some texture and it was like night and day. It makes sense, the right brush can add that subtle grit and weight that makes a drawing feel solid. My old sketches always looked too clean and digital until I messed with the brush settings.

Used to think brush settings were just a small detail, but @blake897 is totally right. I stuck with the default round brush for years because it was easy. Then I tried a simple square brush with a bit of grain texture, and my lines instantly had more character. My characters stopped looking like flat stickers and started feeling like they had some rough paper under them. It's crazy how such a small change can make your art feel so much more real.
