Tried to show off my new digital painting at a family BBQ in Denver last week
My uncle thought the hyper-realistic burger I spent 12 hours on was just a weird photo filter and tried to swipe left on my tablet. What's the most absurd reaction you've gotten to your art?

Man, that reminds me of the time I did this detailed charcoal sketch of my old cat napping. My cousin came over, took one look at it, and asked me why I just framed a piece of dirty construction paper. She thought the whole drawing was just a smudge. I had to point out the whiskers and the ear, and she still just shrugged. Some people just see what they want to see.

Wait, she couldn't even see the ear after you pointed it out? That's next level. I'd have just stared at her like she grew a second head.

That "dirty construction paper" thing hits hard. I had a watercolor that got called a "pretty coffee stain" once. What finally worked for me was just handing people my phone with the time-lapse video of me painting it. Seeing the blank paper and the brush moving shut down the "it's just a filter" talk real fast. It's proof they can't argue with. Now I just have a short video ready to go on my phone for family events.
