My basement flood cleanup cost me $800 before I even called the insurance company

My $1200 claim took almost three weeks just to get an adjuster out here (Edmonton too actually). Maybe it's worth waiting before spending your own money on cleanup since the insurance company might not reimburse everything upfront.

My neighborhood Facebook post got deleted for mentioning a library book ban

Yeah that "misinformation" tag is something I've been seeing more and more on stuff that's just... actual local news. I mean there's this weird thing happening where platforms are so scared of getting blamed for spreading stuff that they just nuke anything that even smells like a debate now. It's like they've decided the safest move is to pretend these conversations don't exist at all, which honestly feels worse than letting people argue it out in public. Maybe it's just me but it feels like we're trading one kind of censorship for another and nobody's really asking if that's what we wanted.

PSA: I found a weird way to get a real feel for a neighborhood before buying

Strictly a spy mission" is the only way to do it right. Talking to people puts them on their best behavior and you get fake answers. You have to see the normal, boring truth.

Bought a $40 inspection mirror with a light, best money I ever spent.

My buddy's car mirror got smashed in a parking lot and he was quoted like 300 bucks to fix it. He found the exact same part online for 40 dollars and swapped it himself in twenty minutes. Sometimes the cheap fix is the real fix.
