Can we talk about how much my rent went up in Playa del Carmen after 2 years?
I moved to Playa del Carmen in March 2022 and my studio was $650 a month with utilities included. Last week my landlord sent a note saying it's going to $980 starting in May, which is a 50% jump in two years. I talked to three other people in my building and we all got the same letter on the same day. Turns out a new condo tower opened two blocks away and the rental sites are listing units there for $1,400, so my landlord is trying to match. Is this happening in other spots people are staying, or is it just the Riviera Maya right now?
