I spent way too much on a 'co-living' space in Bali that was just a bad hostel

Back in 2019, I paid $800 for a month at a place in Canggu that promised fast wifi and a good community. The internet cut out daily during calls, and my room was right over a loud bar. I basically had to rent a coworking spot anyway, which added another $150. Has anyone found a good way to check if a place's internet is actually reliable before booking?

What if the problem isn't Bali but your prep work? I mean, you can't just trust a listing's promises. You gotta dig into the recent reviews and specifically ask the host for a speed test screenshot. If the internet is that key, you should be willing to pay extra to secure a good spot or just accept that working from a cafe is part of the deal there. It sounds like you expected a perfect setup for cheap in a place known for spotty infrastructure. Maybe that's just not realistic.

That's just the Bali tax, isn't it?

Yeah, the Bali tax is real and hits everyone. Just factor it into your budget from the start so it doesn't ruin a good day. Saves a lot of stress later.
