Met a digital nomad in Chiang Mai who told me to stop booking Airbnbs a month ahead

Tbh, I was in a shared workspace near Nimman last March and this guy sat down next to me. He saw me booking a place for 30 days and just said stop, book 3 days max. He explained he got stuck in a loud apartment near a construction site for two weeks because he paid upfront. He said he lost about $500 over a year doing that before he changed. I took his advice and now I scope out neighborhoods first before committing. Has anyone else had bad luck with long term Airbnb bookings overseas?

The construction site thing is annoying but it's also kinda rare. I've booked probably 20 places sight unseen and only got burned once by noise. How much time are people really saving by doing this 3 day thing? You're still paying for accommodation those first few nights, just in shorter chunks with worse rates. Plus moving your stuff around every few days is its own headache. I'd rather risk a bad week than spend my trip apartment hunting.

Yeah that construction site thing is brutal. I always ask the host about noise first now.
