My backup laptop died in a Bangkok coffee shop, now I travel with two

I was mid invoice for a client in Chiang Mai when the screen went black, just a dead motherboard at 2pm on a Tuesday. I spent 4 days in that city borrowing a friend's beat up Chromebook to get work done. Anyone else carry a cheap backup device now after getting burned once, or do you just trust your main rig?

Lmao that’s rough, but honestly I did the same thing after my old laptop fried itself in a hostel in Lisbon. Now I carry a used ThinkPad that cost me like 200 bucks, it’s slow as hell but it’s got a spare battery and can at least send invoices and emails. The trick is to make it a habit, not a backup, so you actually use it when the main one dies. If I’m somewhere sketchy or humid, I switch to the cheap one for the day and save the good laptop for safe spots.
