Three hours to find a solid coworking spot in Medellin

Spent almost half a day walking between cafes that were too loud or had crap wifi until I found one with a backup generator in El Poblado. Anyone else waste half a workday just scouting places in a new city?

Three hours just to find a place with a backup generator? That's a new level of crazy to me. I mean, I get that power goes out anywhere, but carrying around a generator just for your laptop is wild. I've worked out of some rough spots on the road here in the States, but I've never had to worry about the power going down in a cafe before. You might have the most reliable setup in all of Medellin now though, so that has to count for something.

Man that generator thing is actually smart in a different way nobody's mentioning. See, carrying a backup generator isn't just about keeping your laptop running. It means you can work anywhere anytime even when the whole block goes dark. Most people think about power outages as a temporary thing but in some places they can last all day or even multiple days. Having your own power source means you're not stuck waiting around or hunting for the one starbucks that somehow still has lights. It's like having a guaranteed office no matter what the grid decides to do.
