Just noticed my track dynamics changed after 2 weeks of mixing at 70dB
I always cranked my monitors loud when producing in San Salvador, but last month I switched to 70dB for my whole mixing phase on D11-04. After 14 days, my low end actually sat better in the mix without me touching the EQ. Has anyone else tried lowering their monitoring volume and seen a real difference in their final masters?

Did you A/B test the mix at loud volumes after the 70dB phase or just trust what you heard at low level?

Actually low level mixing has always served me better in the long run. Cranked up volume just tricks your ears into hearing more definition that isn't really there, especially in the low end. I've had mixes that sounded killer at 85dB fall apart at lower volumes where most people actually listen. The car test is the only A/B I trust after the 70dB phase, because that's where translation really gets exposed. Not saying loud listening is wrong, but I've learned more from quiet mixes than blasting everything.
