That time a DJ in San Salvador showed me the wrong BPM sync trick
I was mixing at a small bar off Calle San Antonio and this guy kept telling me to sync everything to 128 bpm, even tracks that were clearly 90 bpm. He walked off after I ignored him, but it made me realize how many people just follow one number without listening to the groove first. Has anyone else run into someone pushing a rigid rule that just ruins the mix?

Even tracks that were clearly 90 bpm" - that part got me. You can't force a 90 bpm track to sound good at 128 without time stretching it into a mess. I've seen DJs do this with old funk records, trying to cram them into a house set, and it just kills the swing. The groove is in the original tempo, not some number you picked because it's popular. Ever had someone insist you beatmatch by looking at the screen instead of using your ears?
