Drywall dust ended my relationship with my basement ceiling

Spent last Saturday sanding 12 sheets of drywall alone in a 68 degree basement and the dust got into my phone's charging port, killing the speaker, so now I'm wondering if anyone has a trick for keeping gear safe during the messy part of a job or if I should just resign to buying a new phone every remodel.
