Just hit 50 hours on a simple deck repair and it changed my whole view on 'quick fixes'
I mean, everyone online talks about deck boards like it's a weekend job. I started replacing just the bad boards on my 12x16 deck, thinking maybe 8 hours total. Idk, maybe it's just me, but after pulling the first few, I found rot in the joists, then the ledger board wasn't flashed right. Three trips to the store and a whole new set of tools later, I was at 50 hours logged on my phone. It mattered because I was so focused on the surface problem I almost missed the real issue that could have collapsed the whole thing. Now I'm looking at every 'simple' project with way more caution. Has anyone else had a small job blow up like that and how did you handle the extra work?

Was it really that bad or did you just overthink it?

Honestly, how much time do you have? I spent a solid hour replaying a two minute conversation in my head, analyzing every single word I said. So yeah, classic overthinker move, but also it was pretty awkward.
