Warning about using old wood glue from the garage

My neighbor Frank, who's been a carpenter for thirty years, saw me fixing a chair with a bottle of glue I found from a project two summers ago. He said, 'That stuff loses its grab after a year, you're just making a mess.' I checked the bottle and he was right. I tossed it and bought a fresh tube, and the fix held perfectly. Has anyone else had a project fail because of old materials?

Ever wonder if old paint or stain goes bad too? I bet a lot of garage stuff has a shorter shelf life than we think.
