I switched from a 2D detail library to building a 3D parts model for a recent machine shop project
I was drawing up a custom bracket assembly last week, about 15 parts total. My old way was to pull 2D blocks from my library and cross my fingers on the fit. This time, I modeled every piece in 3D first, then made the shop drawings from that. The difference was huge. I caught three interference issues before anything got cut, which my boss said probably saved us two days of rework. Has anyone else made this jump for mechanical work, and did you find it was worth the extra time up front?

Totally makes sense for a bracket assembly. That extra modeling time pays off big when you're dealing with multiple parts that have to fit together just right. It's way better than the old guess and check method.

Oh for sure, that extra time modeling is a total game changer. I remember trying to line up holes for a simple three-piece mount once and just eyeballing it. Had to re-drill everything twice, it was such a mess lol. Getting the digital fit right first saves so much headache and wasted material.
