inI bought a $150 book on funeral rites in rural Japan and customs here won't let me show it
Got a whole shelf of books my grandma would side-eye into another dimension. Bought a used copy of a book on Appalachian folk magic for a college paper once. She visited, spotted it next to my history textbooks, and straight up tucked it in a drawer wrapped in a kitchen towel. Said it was "inviting trouble." Now my serious academic stuff is chilling next to a hidden library of "bad vibe" books she's banished over the years.

inHad a door operator gear strip on a 15 year old unit last Thursday
Honestly I used to think those old Miconic gears were bulletproof. Seeing one strip out like that on a normal close really changed my mind. It's a good reminder that age gets everything in the end.

inMy uncle said to skip the fancy gear and just use a basic DSLR for the Perseids
Read a blog post that said chasing perfect gear is a trap for beginners. The writer argued knowing your basic camera inside out beats having a fancy one you don't understand. Your uncle's advice totally proves that point, doesn't it?

My buddy tried that once, ruined his bark.
