My town's civic center plans have everyone arguing over 3D modeling software choices

The city council approved funds for a new civic center, and now local drafting teams are split on using advanced 3D modeling vs. sticking with basic 2D CAD... Some say the 3D tools help spot conflicts early and impress clients. Others argue it adds unneeded complexity and slows down the initial draft phase. I see points on both sides... how do you all handle this kind of shift?

Maybe it's just me, but I remember when our local library upgraded their planning software. The 3D models ended up showing a drainage issue nobody caught in 2D.

What about using those 3D models for public demos? Like @nancy_reed said, they spot problems, but they could also get buy-in from locals who don't read blueprints. Might save time on revisions later.

Oh, that reminds me of when our warehouse switched to a new layout system. It felt slow at first, but like @burns.ruby hinted, the clearer picture stopped a lot of arguments before they started. Sometimes the upfront hassle is worth it.
