Pro tip: Found out the 1:8 scale rule for crosshatching was wrong this whole time

I was looking through an old drafting manual from the 1980s I picked up at a garage sale (you know me, always grabbing old books) and noticed they said crosshatch spacing should be 1:1 relative to the line weight. I always thought it was 1:8 like my boss taught me. Has anyone else run into outdated rules that turned out to be myths?
