Shoutout to the senior drafter who told me to stop using so many layers

I had like 30 layers in every file, one for each pipe run basically. This guy with 40 years experience looked at my DWG and said "you're making it harder on yourself, put grouped systems on the same layer with different lineweights." Cut my layer count to 8. Took me a while to get used to it but it's way easier to manage now. Has anyone else had to unlearn something they thought was best practice?

Heard this exact thing from my buddy Dave who does drafting for a structural firm. Swears by a single layer and lineweight system his old mentor taught him back in the 90s. One day his new boss comes over, sees the drawing, and starts grilling him about where everything is. Dave just points to the legend and says it's all there. Boss spends like ten minutes checking it out, then quietly asks Dave to set up the same template for the whole office. Turns out the old way still beats the new way when the new way is just a mess of colors nobody can sort through.
