Spent 3 minutes watching an old surveyor work in a downtown site and realized I've been leveling my transit wrong for years

He just eyeballed the bubble and set 8 control points that came out within 2mm of each other, now I'm second guessing every level check I've ever done has anyone else had a tradesman casually drop wisdom like that?

Those two millimeter numbers (2mm!) are just wild. I had an old concrete guy once show me how he could "feel" a slab was off by a quarter inch just by walking on it, and he was always dead right. Makes you wonder how much we over-complicate things with all our digital gadgets and fancy leveling procedures when some of these guys have it down to an art form. Honestly, hearing stuff like that makes me want to throw my laser level in the trash (not really, but you know).
