Subscription CAD tweaks are ruining my tool setups.

Each update to my drafting software adds small changes. These tweaks often break my custom tool palettes. Last week, one moved all my common commands to a new menu. I spent an afternoon just finding them again. It's annoying when updates fix things that work fine. I delay updates until I have to. Maybe we need a way to say no to these changes.

Read a blog post calling this 'update churn'. It said companies change stuff just to show they're doing work. black.beth is right about muscle memory getting wrecked. My custom macro for hatch patterns broke last month. Now I have to relearn it every update.

You hit it with "delay updates until I have to." The whole subscription model forces this on us. They tweak the UI to justify the monthly fee, breaking muscle memory for no real gain. My undo button moved last update, and they changed three keyboard shortcuts I've used for years. It feels like we're now paying them to let us fix what their update broke.

Update churn" is the perfect name for it. My favorite is when they "improve" a tool by hiding it in a sub-menu under a new icon that looks like everything else. Yes, please make me hunt for the trim command I use 50 times a day. It's like they're charging us a monthly fee for a digital scavenger hunt.
