An old hand on the Columbia River called my sling work 'sloppy'

He pointed out I was letting the cable twist too much, which was wearing the strands faster. I started using a swivel hook and checking for lays every morning, and it made a huge difference. Anyone else have a simple tip that saved them a headache down the line?

Wait, you weren't using a swivel before?

Honestly seems like a small thing to get worked up about. People fish for years without one and catch plenty. It's just a tool, not some magic fix. The difference it makes is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. Don't see why not using one before is such a big deal.
