Found out my granddad's old dredge could move 800 tons an hour back in '62

I was cleaning out his garage last weekend and found an old logbook from his Hudson River days with that stat written in the margins. Honestly, that number floored me since the newer stuff I run barely hits 600 on a good day. Has anyone else stumbled across old specs that made you wonder if we're really getting better or just more complicated?

Wait, is that actually impressive or just old gear working different? Old specs always sound crazy to me. People back then fudged numbers all the time.

You hit it right on the head, @charles_chen93, the old numbers were always sketchy. For me, I had an old Pioneer amp that claimed 200 watts but it couldn't drive a decent pair of bookshelf speakers without clipping. Real world performance was way different than the spec sheet. I swapped it for a lower wattage modern amp and it sounded way better. Those old numbers were just marketing fluff most of the time.
