That 1/4 inch gap rule for fire rated drywall is way stricter than I thought
Found out from a local inspector last week that even a 1/8 inch gap in a fire rated wall can fail inspection, and they use a feeler gauge to check it. Has anyone else run into that kind of nitpicking on commercial jobs?

That "feeler gauge" bit got my attention too. Gotta wonder if some guys just get used to slapping tape over bigger gaps and hoping for the best.

Wait, @martinez.anna, isn't a feeler gauge basically just for checking gaps, not really for taping over them though? lol. Most guys I know who actually use one are trying to avoid tape altogether, they just want to know if the gap is even there in the first place. It's more about finding out what's wrong than slapping a fix on it.
