Third mud pan I've dropped this month, finally switching to a bucket on a hook

Dropped a full pan of hot mud off a step ladder on a high-end rehab in Portland and it splattered all over the homeowner's brand new oak floors. That was the third time in a month, and I just stood there with a trowel in my hand while the guy stared at me. I rigged up a 5-gallon bucket with a carabiner clipped to my belt loop and now I dip straight out of it, no pan on the ladder at all. Anyone else ditch the pan for a hook setup, or do you just tape your tools to the scaffold?

That hook setup sounds way smarter than my method of just wedging the pan between my knees and praying. I’ve been there with the splatter on fresh floors, so I keep a small lid on the bucket now so the mud doesn’t skin over between dips.
