One translator's note changed how I prepare asylum interviews
After six months here in Berlin, my lawyer's translator said I kept giving 'textbook answers' that made my story feel rehearsed, so I stopped memorizing dates and started telling it like I would to a friend over coffee. That small shift got my case officer to actually ask follow-up questions instead of just nodding along. Has anyone else gotten feedback like that, and what did you tweak in your own retelling?

That translator gave you real gold there. My sister went through something similar in Canada, and she spent weeks memorizing exact flight numbers and street names until her lawyer said she sounded like she was reading a report. Once she started talking about the smells and sounds of her old neighborhood instead, the officer leaned in and the whole tone changed. People remember feelings better than facts, and that simple truth can make or break a convincing story.
