The week I got stuck in a bureaucratic loop at the Polish embassy and nearly lost my mind

Last March I had to renew my temporary residency permit in Warsaw. Simple enough, right? Wrong. They asked for a document proving I lived at my address. I brought a utility bill. They said it had to be a rental agreement. I brought that. Then they said the landlord's signature wasn't notarized. I got that done. Then they said the notary stamp was from the wrong district. By the fourth trip I was sitting on a bench outside the building eating a sad sandwich and crying a little. The whole thing took six weeks for a stamp that literally just says "yes this person lives here." Has anyone else had a consulate or embassy ask for something that felt designed to make you give up?
