Caught a landlord trying to add illegal fees to my lease renewal

I went to renew my lease for a place near Whyte Avenue in Edmonton and saw they tacked on a $200 'administrative fee' and a $150 'key replacement deposit' out of nowhere. Checked the Residential Tenancies Act and both are straight up not allowed in Alberta. Has anyone else had landlords sneak in stuff like this and how did you push back?

That $150 key deposit fee is just them trying to pad their pockets and it makes you wonder what other corners they cut. Landlords have been testing boundaries more and more lately because they know most people won't look up the rules. Push back hard, they count on you just paying it out of confusion.

Whoa, did they actually try to justify those fees when you asked them about it directly?
