Found out eviction notices need 30 days in Edmonton, not the 14 my landlord claimed
I was about to move out after my landlord texted saying I had two weeks to leave, but then a friend who works at the Landlord and Tenant Board showed me the Residential Tenancies Act says 30 days minimum for month-to-month. Turns out he was trying to rush me out because he had a new tenant lined up for more rent. Has anyone else caught a landlord pulling a shorter timeline than the law actually requires?

oh man that sounds sketchy. my old landlord tried something similar when we were renting in calgary a few years back. he claimed we had to be out in 10 days because of some "emergency renovation" that turned out to be just painting a room lol. luckily my neighbor had been through the same thing and told me to check the rules. its wild how some landlords think they can just make up whatever they want and hope you dont know better. i swear some of them rely on tenants being too scared or busy to look things up. good on you for catching it before you packed up in a rush.

I saw a news story about that exact scam in Ontario last month.
