Stopped relying on the lawyer's free 15 min call, now I pay $200 for an actual consult

Tbh the free intro calls just got me generic advice and a bill later, so last month I paid a real employment lawyer in Edmonton over Zoom and got a straight answer on my severance package. Has anyone else found that paying upfront actually saves you money in the long run?

but the real savings might not be in the advice itself. it's in the fact that a paid consult forces you to actually prepare. when it's free, people just call and ramble for ten minutes and get nothing done. when you're dropping two hundred bucks, you show up with your paperwork, your dates, your emails, all sorted. that alone probably saves you a few hours of back and forth later. plus the lawyer knows you're serious, so they actually read your stuff instead of giving you the same canned spiel they give everyone. idk, maybe the money is just a filter for your own mess.
