Why does nobody talk about the fee disclosure rule in Edmonton small claims court?

I went to the Edmonton courthouse last Tuesday to file a small claim for a contractor who overcharged me by $850, and the clerk pointed out that I could add the filing fee to my claim amount. That saved me from eating that cost even if I win, which I had no idea was an option. Has anyone else discovered hidden rules like this that actually make a difference in court costs?

Honestly, it's like you're supposed to just know stuff. Nobody tells you the real rules until you mess up first. Feels like a weird test we all fail a few times.
