My neighbor insisted I didn't need a survey before building my fence last summer
Old guy two doors down said he'd lived here 40 years and knew exactly where the property lines ran. Told me spending $1200 on a survey was a waste. I listened to him. Built the whole fence in August. Now my other neighbor is claiming 3 feet of my yard belongs to them. Got a letter from their lawyer last week. Gonna cost me way more to rip it out and start over. Anyone else take shortcuts on property stuff and regret it?

Takes your story and runs with it. My cousin did almost the exact same thing but with a shed. Some old timer told him the property stake was "close enough" so he poured a concrete slab and built a 10x12 shed on it. Turns out he was three feet over the line. Neighbor made him tear the whole thing down and move it. Cost him almost double what a survey would have been. Plus he had to pay to have the concrete demoed and hauled off. Whole thing was a nightmare from start to finish.

A buddy of mine listened to an old timer and ended up losing five feet of his driveway to a neighbor.
