Our new place in Mill Woods came with a 'fully finished' basement that wasn't
Closed on the house in January, and the first time we tried to use the basement shower, the drain backed up into the floor drain... Found out the previous owner did the plumbing himself and used the wrong size pipe for the whole wet bar and bathroom rough-in. Had to cut open a section of the new drywall to fix it, which cost about $800 more than we planned right after moving. Anyone else get stuck fixing hidden DIY work from a past owner?

Welcome to the club of finding out your "finished" basement was finished with wishful thinking and the wrong parts. My last place had a ceiling fan wired with speaker wire and a deck held up by hopes and prayers. You fix one thing and then find three more surprises waiting. It's like a bad treasure hunt where the prize is another trip to the hardware store.

I mean, @claire64, it feels like half the houses in my town are just a collection of weird fixes waiting to be found.
