A customer in Phoenix told me his old stereo was 'like a family member'

He brought in a 1978 Pioneer receiver, said his dad bought it new and he learned to solder fixing it with him. Makes you think about what we're really saving beyond the parts. Anyone else get an item with that kind of story attached?

Sometimes the story is the only part that still works.

Man it's funny you say that, I've been noticing this same thing everywhere lately. Like that old diner in my town that closed down - the food wasn't even that great but people still go there just to talk about the time they got pancakes at 2am after a bad breakup. The story outlives the thing itself most of the time.

That "what we're really saving" idea is nice, but honestly, it's just a box of old parts to me.
